The Exchange Building
The destination for startups to meet up, start up, and move up in downtown Omaha.
The Exchange Building at 1905 Harney Street is the home of the AIM Institute, the Omaha Startup Collaborative (OSC), Straight Shot, Interface Web School, and more than 20 key players in the Omaha startup ecosystem. Formerly the Omaha Grain Exchange, one of the pillars of Omaha’s business community dating back to 1916, AIM and OSC are reinvigorating the building’s legacy and looking forward to the city’s brilliant future.
The following work is part of a large collaboration with AIM, OSC, Birdhouse Interiors, and DeOld Andersen Architecture.
The Brand
The destination for startups to meet up, start up, and move up. The new Exchange brand is designed to speak to the building’s historic functionality as a grain exchange now led by AIM, full of creative technology efforts ready to collide and grow. We see the Exchange Building as a hub for innovation, bringing together younger creatives with seasoned corporate professionals which will increase understanding and awareness of AIM’s mission to build brilliant communities.

The Building
From a high-growth startup’s perspective, the Exchange Building will have everything — tangibly and intangibly — needed to scale, including education, mentorship, talent, and access to capital. To build brilliant communities, as a place, as a destination, the Exchange Building can be the hub for a city ready to be inspired by innovation and creativity.
This place has always invested in futures.
The 8th Floor
For Omaha Startup Week 2016, The Exchange Building was basecamp. The week celebrated the hard work of the startup community and our unique entrepreneurial identity. The top floor of The Exchange was unveiled to kick things off. It’s designed to be a focal point and a sign of what’s to come for the building as a whole.
The project moved forward because of the tireless work of Erica Wassinger of OSC.
