Introducing Tiperosity

I’m very excited to share a new startup company/idea I’ve been working on for the last few months. Originally conceived by Nathan Preheim of former MindMixer fame, Tiperosity will be a place for people to get great tips. Everyday know-how for your every day, if you will. Nathan brought me in to do the brand and now the platform is being co-designed and developed with Cody Peterson and Jason Sawyer. And big props to the fabulous Katie Kemerling for coming up with the name. We’ll be sharing more in the months to come. Fun stuff for sure, with just a hint of Sasquatch.

Meet the Artist, See the Dog

How does a great design communicate effectively to people? Great design moves people. In some way it touches a chord, compels them to action or causes a shift. It’s illuminating, thought-provoking and meaningful. The best examples of this inspire people and bring their own individual understanding to a new place that allows for an altering or solidifying of current perspectives.

Coworking

To this point, the office for JKDC has been in my home. This week, however, that is no longer the case. I’m now in a flashy new coworking space with the fabulous Jake Welchert of Obama for America and Coolhouse Labs fame. It’s in Dundee, right next to the Dell. Amsterdam’s is just around the corner. (BOOM!) Jake has put together a truly inspirational space that I am lucky, and so excited, to be part of. We’ll be making it a home for design, development, and collaboration in midtown Omaha. Good things are coming, because you know we’ll be branding the shit outta this thing. They’ll be shared here. If you want to stop by, hit me up. In the meantime, there’ll be plenty of Twitter banter if you’re interested. Godspeed.

Off and Running

And here we go. 2015 is in full effect. The downtime was amazing and now the sleeves are rolled up and we’re back at it. The next couple of months are sure to be interesting. To track progress, shots will be Dribbbled, some projects will be Behanced, and Action Backed will be Tumbling. This blog will get its steady use while Medium could see some longer writings. And, of course, new work will be added to this portfolio. So many accounts, so little time. Here’s to sharing and being open about what works, what fails, and how we grow and change.

#GivingTuesday

On this global day dedicated to giving back, several of the wonderful organizations I work with are asking for support. The Union for Contemporary Art unites artists and the community to inspire positive social change. Bold Nebraska has a store stocked full of great stuff with all sales going to stop the Transcanada Pipeline. Nebraska Appleseed continues to advance the fight for justice and opportunity for all. And today Omaha Gives! was announced by the Omaha Community Foundation so mark your calendars for May 20th. These four groups do amazing things. If you’re celebrating generosity on this #GivingTuesday, please consider supporting them.

Pecha Kucha Night Omaha

Devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. 20 slides, 20 seconds per. In Omaha we’re about to put on our 23rd Pecha Kucha. An organization I serve on the board of directors for, Design Alliance Omaha, hosts them. Ace designer Jake Welchert emcees. As a night of creativity from interesting people in the community, they are wonderful experiences. Most of the 6 minute 40 second presentations over the years have been compelling, entertaining or inspiring. Free of deep tangents, over-explaining and droning on and on, I have yet to see a better format for showcasing projects. Design, architecture, art, collaboration, etc. If you ever have a chance to give one, definitely do it. If nothing else, it’ll teach you to edit, edit and edit. And to only present things worth presenting.
