What We’ve Always Done

DESIGNING IN NATIONAL CRISIS

We are now setting out on a journey of great uncertainty. If that was a river, this is the sea.

The coronavirus pandemic is firmly entrenched in America. Everything is different now. There’s no script for this. But as our work, homes, and leisure have been upended, the offices of JKDC and its teams (this one, that one) are still doing what we’ve always done. We’re making projects happen in the best ways we can given the circumstances of the day.

Our plan is to continue working as long as you’ll have us.

We’ve always tried to be accommodating when it comes to budgets, scopes, and timelines. We’re seasoned at working remotely, collaborating through video screens and telephone lines. And we’ll remain flexible and attuned to the needs of our clients and the projects we work on together. None of that changes.

We push forward in this crisis with a heightened sense of gratitude. For the people we’re continuing to work with as the weeks go by, know we love you and we care about you and what you’re trying to accomplish in all this chaos. We’re honored to stand beside you as the task of making a better future is more important than ever. It starts here, it starts now.

We don’t know what the future holds.

We don’t know how long this lasts.

We don’t know when we come out on the other side.

But we do know, we’ll be here.

If you want to talk more, give a shout.

Viral Art Project

If not an essential worker, hard to know what to do in the face of such a dangerous foe as COVID–19. Aside from staying the fuck home, as a designer, in my down time, I suppose I can make a poster that stresses the importance of doing our part by staying home, for the good of our healthcare system. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do:

The Viral Art Project is a call to action for graphic designers, artists, and other creative people to bring their talents to the Coronavirus emergency facing our world. We are inviting designers to submit poster art that will raise awareness of the challenges facing all of us, and promote messages about what we have to do and how we can get through this time together.

Omaha COVID-19 Fund

A collaborative, community response to deploy resources to local nonprofit organizations

Together with several local foundations, the Omaha Community Foundation has launched the COVID-19 Response Fund to provide flexible resources to organizations in the metro area working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by coronavirus and the economic consequences of this outbreak.

Happy Omaha

Made with love for Omaha by Grain & Mortar the Happy Omaha website showcases favorite local spots in need of our support now more than ever. If you’re a small independently owned business, consider submitting your info to the project. Tell your friends, support the businesses who make our city great.

Harvest the Vote

So how can Democrats win again in rural American? Big question. Illusive answer. Is it possible? Maybe. If it is to happen, a big reason will be because of the tireless organizing work done by people like Jane Kleeb. She just released a book on the subject called Harvest the Vote. We made some shirts to promote the effort. To get people excited about Democrats winning again in rural America. To get people excited about voting and organizing and being proud of being from this place in the middle of the country.

Are you excited? You should be.
