Redacted: Logo for America

People seem to care more about political branding these days. Women running are breaking the rules. Graphic design experts are critiquing the Democratic field. Under Consideration is all over that Boot-Edge-Edge brand. From the Obama ‘O’ to the Hillary ‘H,’ politicians investing in their brand has been with us for the last few cycles. But all the buzz and noise and fervor around 2020 makes the branding this time around seem even more important.

Sure, you’re a candidate with a platform and policy ideas, but what’s your logo look like?

Response Delay

If you happen to reading this, and you’re waiting for something from me—an email or a proposal or an answer to a question—there might be a delay. It’s not you, it’s me. Shit is just extra crazy at the moment. Thank you for understanding. (Hi-5s!)

Roots to Rock!

Omaha has many, many exciting nonprofit organizations. One in particular is Omaha Girls Rock. They empower youth through music education. I’m really impressed with the positive impact they have on our community and now they’re looking to make things a little more permanent. The Roots to Rock HQ Capital Campaign is looking to convert a 5,000 square-foot space to allow them to solidify the rock for the next generation. And they need your help. Consider supporting. If you need inspiration, check out this sweet poster we designed together.

The Theater of Work

Design Alliance Omaha welcomes Clive Wilkinson to OMA by way of LAX. Architect, designer, writer, and strategist with particular expertise in the application of urban design thinking to interior design, specifically in workplace and educational communities. He will be signing copies of his new book The Theatre of Work and maybe even some posters, too.

Paul Giamatti

Every two years, Film Streams brings a high-profile actor to Omaha for a fundraising event called Feature. Orchestrated by award-winning director and Film Streams board member Alexander Payne, this year we welcomed Paul Giamatti to the city. A very special evening at the Holland Performing Arts Center and the largest fundraising event to date for this cinema nonprofit.

Way back I remember seeing American Splendor at an arthouse theater in Lincoln. Such a great film. Made better by the magnificently skilled Paul Giamatti. I don’t really know what makes a great actor, but if I needed to point to an example of someone out there today making great films and TV shows, I’d go with Mr. Giamatti.

Paternity Leave

Friends. Some news. I’m now a dad. My wife and I are thrilled to be the parents of a wonderful baby girl. With that, despite America not having any paid family leave (this ain’t Sweden), after my wife’s maternity leave, I’m now taking over for the next couple months. Paternity leave, official! Looking forward to a different kind of adventure. This blog is taking a break for now, will be back in August after the summer fun. Until then, enjoy the sun.

Have a project for the fall? Drop me a line, my schedule will have some openings.
