Heartbeat bill? Give me a break.

My written comment against LB626:

This bill isn’t about a heartbeat. Because we all know it’s not a heartbeat you hear. This bill is about an extremist minority flexing its anti-democratic power to ruin lives. This bill is anti-freedom, anti-woman, anti-community, anti-healthcare. It’'s a ridiculous display of religion. This isn’t conservatism in any way. Fanaticism by a few, out of touch Nebraskans who are making a mockery out of the label Pro-Life. NO BANS, EVER.

Michigan St Graphic Design

Visual Communication + Social Justice

Yesterday I spoke to a group of graphic design students from Michigan State University. We talked about how graphic design can be used to shout messages of social justice, environmental action, police accountability, and the crucial importance of voting. Special thanks for the invite to their professor and visual artist Parisa Ghaderi. The first time I’ve done this presentation. You can check out the slides at the link below.

The Imagery of Early Abortion

Important coverage from The New York Times:

So much of the imagery that people see about abortion comes from abortion opponents who have spent decades spreading misleading fetal imagery to further their cause… It’s important to us to counter medical misinformation related to early pregnancy because about 80 percent of abortions in the United States occur at nine weeks or earlier.

Speaking Themes

As it stands, the themes to have emerged with my work over the last decade have solidified themselves. For any upcoming presentations, one could expect the contents of my design talks to involve:

  • Offline + Online

  • Action + Design

  • Brand + Extra

  • Simplicity + Consistency

  • Type + Image

Here’s to Another

The grinding day-to-day of running any business can certainly get the better of you, from time-to-time. But it doesn’t define you. No, you’re here for the journey you’ve chosen to create. You’re here for the rush, for the excitement, for the new adventures awaiting you even though you’re sitting in the same old chair. Consider yourself lucky to be amongst the few where this isn’t work. It’s a calling. And you fucking know in your blood this is the only thing you could ever really do. Yes, last year was epic. So was the year before that. And here’s to another. Cheers.
